2005 |
November 3,
2006 Dear
Friend, Nearly 68
years after its founding, the Mount
Pleasant Public Library
continues to be an important part of the educational and cultural life of
our community. Of the 22,342
titles currently in our collection, there are 872 reference books, 202
DVDs, 124 videocassettes, 229 audio books, 72 current periodicals and 3
newspapers. Just as our inventory continues to grow, so does our patron
list. The computers are in constant use, patrons are reading the latest
periodical or newspaper, another corner hosts teaching activities (both
adult and student), a patron is looking at our DVD display, another patron
is in the back room searching through the genealogy books, someone else is
standing at the desk searching the automated card catalog, and another
patron is in the stacks looking for a book while still another group is in
the activity room with a program for children or teens.
Our library is busy. Our great
staff has been busy hosting many programs and events this year. Stage
Right Performances, Natureology, Mother Goose Story Hour, Dragonology,
Chess, Egyptology, Adult Book Club, Board Games, Walk in the Park, Book
Fair, ADAPT Outreach, Story hour, Summer Reading Program, and Robotics, to
name a few. These programs have been well attended. The Summer Reading
Program had a grand total of 1577 in attendance. Some of our special
visitors this year were Representative Jess Stairs who was here to read to
the children during One Book, Every Young Child Story Hour and
Westmoreland County Prison’s Detective Beacon and his trained dog,
Officer Bosco, from the Westmoreland County Drug Awareness Program.
Thanks to
the generous memorial donations from our patrons and their families, we
were able to purchase many requested books and audio books. We invite
you to visit our library or check us out online, at www.mountpleasantpalibrary.org.
The staff updates the text and pictures weekly. All residents of
Westmoreland County are entitled to a free library card. We need
your continued support through your association dues. New and potential
members are always welcome. Thank you.
Sincerely, Nancy J.
